Want to make a sculpture, birdhouse, or a nice dish? Handbuilding is right for you.
Come learn to work with clay at Make Waynesboro Clay Studio in Waynesboro, VA.
This class is designed to give you the essential skills needed to create clay objects using handbuilding methods. Unlike throwing on a potters' wheel, handbuilding is a skill that's a little easier to get started with, so you will likely come away from this class session with some pretty nice handmade pieces. This class will cover slab-building, hump molds, coil building, and pinch building, as well as methods for decorating, carving, and glazing.
Students in this class must be at least 16 years old.
What's it cost? What's the fee include?
A six-week class session costs $150.00 per student. Members of the SVAC and SAAC receive a 10% discount.
The $150 class fee includes 6 weeks of instruction, clay, use of studio tools, and firing credit. (Firing credit is limited. You'll be able to bisque some of your pieces, and glaze fire up to a half-shelf of work. Trust us-- that's enough. If you want to fire more, you'll be able to pay extra for it.)
Classes are held at Make Waynesboro Clay Studio, near downtown Waynesboro.
The address is 200 W 12th St., Waynesboro VA 22980.
The studio is part of a larger complex at The Mill at South River. Students will be provided with specific directions (including code for the gate, which you need after 5pm) before the first class.
