This is an updated version of Sue Stone's previous kids' classes.

This one will include both handbuilding AND techniques for surface decoration.

  • This class is for novices aged 5-10.
  • The class will be limited to 8 students.

Hi young artists! Have you ever wanted to learn how to make a pot or ceramics sculpture?

This class is meant for you! Youth Ceramics I is for students ages 5-10 with no to little ceramics experience. This class will include a variety of handbuilding techniques, including building with slabs, molds, and more! Sue is also adding an emphasis on surface decoration for this session.

Come learn at Make Waynesboro Clay Studio in Waynesboro, VA. No experience necessary!

What's it cost? What's the fee include?

A six-week class session costs $150.00 per student. Members of the SVAC and SAAC receive a 10% discount.

In support of the Blue Ridge Children's Museum, we will donate 10% of fees to that effort. Learn more about the BRCM here.

The $150 class fee includes 6 weeks of instruction, clay, use of studio tools, and firing credit. (Firing credit is limited. You'll be able to bisque some of your pieces, and glaze fire up to a half-shelf of work. Trust us-- that's enough. If you want to fire more, you'll be able to pay extra for it.)

Does a parent/guardian have to stay?

No, you're welcome to drop your child off. (There are chairs available if you'd like to stay.) There's a grocery store nearby, as well as the public library.

Classes are held at Make Waynesboro Clay Studio, near downtown Waynesboro. The address is 200 W 12th St., Waynesboro VA 22980. The studio is part of a larger complex at The Mill at South River. Students will be provided with specific directions before the first class.

This session will be taught by Sue Stone, potter and former K12 teacher.

About the studio: Make Waynesboro Clay Studio is operated by Jake Johnson Ceramics LLC.
